We are more than a storefront

Our mission is to inspire and facilitate change in consumer habits and industry practices. NU Outreach was created to educate the public about waste and sustainability, because awareness of a problem is the first step towards tackling it.

Welcome to NU Outreach!

I’m Valerie, your point of contact for our education and outreach services.

Five years ago, I embarked on my own zero waste journey… and on a mission to raise awareness about waste.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. I have spent 10 years in the corporate world and another 10 years working as a Teacher for Ottawa’s public school board.

As the co-founder and CEO of Ontario’s first zero waste grocery store, I am happy to share my experience and inspire others to make a change towards waste-free living and responsible consumerism.

We do invited talks, keynotes, workshops and panel discussions. Our interventions are customized, interactive and thought-provoking. Our favourite topics are:

  • The zero waste lifestyle
  • Responsible consumerism
  • Social entrepreneurship
  • Activism and advocacy

Since launching NU Grocery in August of 2017, we have given workshops, lectures and speeches at University of Ottawa, Carleton University, Algonquin College, Hub Ottawa, TEDx Youth Nepean, the One Campaign and various Government Departments and Agencies.

We believe that young people who are educated about waste are tomorrow’s zero waste adults.

#GenerationZeroWaste is a collection of 45 minute talks aimed at elementary and high school students. Presentations are designed to be interactive, age-appropriate, thought-provoking and fun.
