Zero waste online shopping. Is it possible?
Online shopping and waste reduction usually don’t go together. Orders come with extra packaging: cardboard boxes, tape, plastic bubble wraps or foam peanuts.
At NU, we do everything to make your online purchase as zero waste as possible!
The box, tape, label (including its liner!) and any filler used to protect the product are made of paper that is 100% recyclable and compostable. And whenever possible, we reuse boxes and packing supplies that we get from our suppliers.

We don’t deliver by bike yet, but are working on it!
For now, we use a hybrid vehicle for our local deliveries and Canada Post’s Expedited Service for Canada-wide shipping. Our flat delivery/shipping fee is $12.

Fair employment practices
Treating our employees fairly is an investment in the long-term success of our business and the well-being of our community. We are vocal supporters of a living wage, paid sick days and fair scheduling practices.
We also recognize the strain that Covid-19 has put on essential workers. Since the beginning of the pandemic, we're closing our doors on Monday to offer one paid mental health day a week to our full time staff, among other benefits.

Our values1% for a cause
We believe in business as a force for good and support the fight for environmental and social justice with our 1% for a cause programme. Every month, we choose a cause and select a not-for-profit organization in our community that is dedicated to it. We donate 1% of our in-store and online sales and promote and amplify their work on our social media platforms. Recent recipients include Ecology Ottawa, Capital Pride and Parkdale Food Centre. This month, our donation will support Jaku Konbit's work to uplift Black youth and celebrate African and Caribbean cultures in Ottawa.
