How to make your own face mask

No need to be a professional seamstress to make this simple DIY mask. All you need is a sewing machine, two pieces of 20 cm x 20 cm cotton squares and two 20 cm long elastic bands. And follow our easy step by step tutorial!

Step 1: Cut a 20 x 20 cm paper square and draw 6 horizontal lines as shown in the picture, then cut two 20 x 20 cm squares from your cotton fabric.

Step 2: Put the two fabric squares on top of each other and sew them together at each edge using a zigzag stitch.Step 3: Use the paper template to mark the horizontal lines on the fabric, then fold the fabric as shown in the picture and iron.

Step 4: Sew each side of the folded mask together using a straight stitch.

Step 5: Fold the top of the mask to make a hem and insert one side of the elastic band (roughly 1 cm of elastic) on each side of the mask. Sew the hem – you will automatically be sewing the elastic into the mask. Repeat at the bottom of the mask.

And this is how the finished product looks like!

Our health officials recommend to wear a mask in public spaces. But it does not replace physical distancing. For everyone’s safety, please stay 2 m away from others.
